Wayne Marion Langston Sr., 85, of Timmonsville, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Langston was born in Florence County, the son of Stephen Sterling Langston and Dessie Cusaac Langston. After graduating from Timmonsville High School, where he played football and basketball, he began working in the tobacco industry as a buyer and grader. He worked for W. A. Adams Company and Standard Commercial for more than 45 years. Mr. Langston was also a farmer and pilot, running a crop-dusting business for several years. He was a long-time member of the Peniel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the choir.
He is survived by his son, Wayne M. (Betsy) Langston Jr.; two daughters, Wendy L. (David) Kaczmarek and M. Cameron Langston (Cam); three grandchildren, Wayne M. Langston III (Way), Pierce S. Langston and Weatherly B. Langston (Web). He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary G. Langston; two brothers, James A. Langston and Stephen C. Langston.
Due to health concerns, the family has chosen to forgo visitation and a graveside service at this time. A “Celebration of Life” ceremony will be held at a later date and details will be published in the Florence Morning News.
