Shirley Bass Obituary

Timmonsville, SC – Shirley Grice Bass, 83, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 9, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.   A private burial will be at Byrd Cemetery.    The family will have a time of visitation from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. before the service at the Funeral Home.

Shirley was born in Horry County, the daughter of the late Lonnie Grice and Mazelle Bozeman Grice.  She was a teaching assistant in the Public School System. She loved sewing, gardening and spending time with her family and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She fostered over 50 children. Many still reached out to her often.

She was first married to the late Rush Varner Bass then, to the late Charles W.  Bass.

Surviving are two sons, Durwin Hal (Terrie) Bass, Michael L Bass; two daughters, Sedena K (Mary) Bass, Selena G (Ron) Westbrook and Crystal (Dave) Bass; one brother, Willard (Rhonda) Grice.   She is preceded in death by a son, Rush Vance Bass; brothers, Davis Grice, Maxie Grice and sisters, Agnes Davis and Lura Jane Buck.

Shirley loved working with artificial flowers and request all flower contributions be artificial.
