Richard Powers
Greenville, SC – Talmadge Richard Powers, Jr. 80, formerly of Timmonsville passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 30, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Florence Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family will speak to those attending after the service. Social distancing will be observed, please wear a mask.
Richard was born in Florence County, the son of the late Talmadge Richard, Sr., and Tressie Hicks Powers. He served in the US Air Force. Richard attended Vallejo Junior College receiving an Associate Degree. Before retiring, he worked at Smurfit-Stone container. He enjoyed singing, fishing, watching the Clemson Tigers play football and spending time with his family. Besides his wife and kids, he loved each of grandchildren and had an active interest in their lives. He enjoyed helping those around him who had vision issues like himself to receive services to help them manage life better. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Pierce Powers; daughter, Brenda (James)Cox; two sons, Kenneth (LaRena) Powers, Kelvin (Bridget) Powers; sister, Ann Culberson; brother, Mitchell (LeAnn) Powers; grandchildren, Chris (Casey) Cox, Ashlyn Cox, Sabrina Powers, Jennifer Powers, Stacy Owens and Michael Owens and a great-grandchild Eliza James.
