ROBERT “RUSSELL” HILL, age 86, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Pee Dee Gardens in Florence, SC. He was born on June 7, 1935 in Florence, SC. He was raised on a farm and had chores to do each morning before leaving for school. He graduated from Timmonsville High School. Russell was a farmer, a soldier, and a surveyor. He was a hard worker and was employed by the SC Highway Department and Lind Surveying Company. He retired from the Highway Department and from the SC National Guard (SFC Medic). He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He cherished his land and his heritage and enjoyed sharing stories about his adventures and experiences. He loved to read his Bible and books about history, prophecy, and the end times, of which he was very knowledgeable.
Russell is predeceased by his parents, Casey Hill and Lurline Stokes Murray; his wife, Harriet Jordan Hill; his brother, Julian Murray; and his son, Lyle Hill. He lovingly talked about being reunited with them and seeing his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his son, Phillip (Angie) Hill, his daughter, Kim Gandy, his daughter-in-law, Karen Hill, his grandchildren, Justin and Julia Gandy, Dacia Hill Oates, and Mary Elizabeth Hill; his great-grandchildren, Taylor and Levi Gandy, Caroline and Andrew Oates; Brantley and Keegan Parker, and John William White; his nephew, Johnford (Stephanie) Murray, his niece, Lindsey (Chip) Creel, his great-nephew CJ Creel, his great-nIeces, Ella Creel and Kailee (Trent) Wagner, and his sister-in-law, Linda (Jimmy) Yarborough.
Visitation is Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 p.m.. A private graveside service will be held at a later time.
