Mickey Leviner Obituary

Florence, SC – Michael Vernon Leviner, 76, went peacefully to his heavenly home on Sunday evening, Dec. 3, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church.  Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. before the service at the church.

Mr. Leviner was born in Bennettsville, SC, the son of William Vernon and Carrie Lambert Leviner.  He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.  Mickey, as he was known by friends and family, served the country he loved through the Army National Guard.

Mickey was a jack of all trades in his career.  He sold insurance while attending Francis Marion University, where he played baseball as the team’s pitcher.  He then worked for Southern Bell in sales and marketing, retiring early to start a non-emergency medical transport company.  After more than a decade as owner-operator, Mickey decided it might be easier to work for someone else.  He spent the remainder of his career in sales positions for industrial coating companies.

Mickey’s passions were baseball, beach music, Clemson football, great food, and time with family.  Nothing made him happier than sitting on the porch with his bride watching the sunset, beach music playing in the background.  His heart was full when his house was full of his children and grandchildren.  His eyes twinkled most when regaling friends and family with his hilarious stories.

Mickey had a keen eye for detail, finding great joy in a perfect meal, a thoughtfully designed home, or well-tailored suit. He loved beautiful music performances. In all things, he was a man of excellence and refined taste.

Mickey partnered with his wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Leviner, in youth ministry for decades. On Thursday evenings throughout the 1990s, their living room was full of teenagers gathered for Bible Study. In the early 2000s, Mickey and Betty joined with friends to start a King’s Kids team, a group of young people that ministered throughout Florence and the surrounding communities.

Throughout his life, every community that Mickey joined soon elevated him to a position of leadership. From church boards to the neighborhood watch, Mickey’s wisdom and counsel were in demand. This wasn’t because Mickey talked a lot; in fact, he often was slow to speak. He simply carried peace, confidence, and great intellect. Mickey’s faithfulness and integrity were unparalleled.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Leviner; son, James Michael (Elizabeth) Leviner; daughter, Emily Elizabeth Leviner; and the love of his heart, two grandchildren, Sullivan Raye Leviner, Michael Barnes Leviner.

Memorials may be made to Shirley Weaver Ministries, Community Kitchen of Bennettsville, and the Project Legacy Building Campaign at The King’s Academy.
