Obituary

 A native and longtime resident of Florence, South Carolina, peacefully ascended to heaven on July 21, 2023, while in the loving care of her daughter, Sheron Laney, in Demopolis, Alabama. .

Funeral services to celebrate the rich and meaningful life of Juanita Meggs Coward will be held at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum on Saturday July 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service. 

Juanita was the daughter of the late Samuel E. Meggs and Janie Stricklen Meggs, also, of Florence.  Juanita was a devoted and loving wife and mother.  She graduated from Timmonsville High School and lived through the challenging times right after the Great Depression, which instilled in her, like many others of that period, a resilience that she carried throughout her life

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 68 years, Thaddeus Fred Coward, Jr.

Juanita is survived by her three children; Sheron (Johnny) Laney of Demopolis, AL, Lynn (Jannette) Coward of Greenville, SC, and Craig (Jan) Coward of Rock Hill, SC.; seven (7) grandchildren, John (Deborah) Laney, Christopher (Stacey) Laney, Michael (Emma) Coward, Ron (Tanya) Calcutt, Heather (Justin) Coward Bridges, Elaine (Jonathan) Coward Proctor, Derrick (Hannah) Grimsley; 14 great-grandchildren, Grace Laney, Elizabeth Laney, John Wilson Laney, Nalya Laney, Ayiana Laney, Thaddeus Laney, Parker Calcutt, Chase Harris, Mattie Harris, Charlotte Coward, Ella Coward, Katelynn Proctor, Nathaniel Proctor, John Wesley Bridges;  brother, Samuel Meggs; sister, Vera Meggs Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Jane Ella Meggs Odom, Lynwood Meggs, William Meggs, Rhunette Meggs Liles, and Annie Lois Meggs Hudson.

Juanita Meggs Coward will be very deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire and comfort those she touched throughout her life.
