Jerel Wayne Barnes

Florence, SC – Jerel Wayne Barnes, 74, went to see his Heavenly Father Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023. Funeral services will be Sunday, Oct, 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Mizpah Baptist Church, Florence, SC.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will have a time of visitation Saturday, Oct 14, 2023 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, Florence.

Mr. Barnes was born in Lexington, North Carolina, the son of the late Hoyle Odell and Annie Ruth Darr Barnes. Jerel served his country in the US Air Force.  He was a member of Mizpah Baptist Church.  He was a church deacon and sang in the choir.  Jerel was a former member of a Bluegrass band called the Carolina Crossroads Band.   He shared his Faith through music, enjoying good gospel singing.  He was former Commander of the Fred H. Sexton American Legion Post.  If you had the opportunity to meet Jerel, he was a loving, kind, gentle man, that loved his LORD, most of the time before he would leave you he would ask to pray with you.  His family was one of his greatest pleasures.  Jerel’s trademark was holding or smoking his pipe.

Surviving are; the love of his life of 51 years, Dorothy Jenkins Barnes; son, Eric (Jeanne) Barnes; daughter, Crystal (Derek) Parker; grandchildren, Hollie Barnes, Joshua and Adam Parker; Grace Foxworth, Taylor Braddock and his great-grandchildren, Naomi Thomas and Lincoln Walker.
