Janie was born in Walhalla, (Oconee County), SC. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Orr and Francis Kiser.
She was married to the late Claude Fulton Young, Jr.
Surviving are: a sister, Mary Ellen Hamby, and brothers, EJ Orr, Robert Orr, Jack Smith, many nieces and nephews, a loving church family and her Maranatha Christian School family.
To know Janie was to love her, and she had a unique way of making any day much brighter with her sweet smile! Janie was a Cherokee Indian and proud of her heritage. She lived a simple life with no desire for extravagant things. One of her greatest joys came from volunteering at First Church and MCS every day. She loved and hugged on everyone she came into contact with. She also loved to color, listen to her CD’s of her Preacher, watch western movies, eat hotdogs, Whopper Jrs, milkshakes, popsicles, Diet Pepsi’s, watermelon, and play with her baby dolls.
Janie knew Jesus and wanted everyone to attend her Church with her. She gave out thousands of Gospel tracts in her lifetime as well. Going to Church was the highlight of her week, and she also loved Gospel music. She found great comfort in talking about living in her mansion in Heaven.
A special thanks to all of those who had a hand in taking care of Janie through the years.
The loving hands of her church family, Christian friends, hospital staff, doctors, hospice care, and the care of the Heritage Nursing Home meant the world to her.
Memorials may be made to the JOY (Janie Orr Young) scholarship at Maranatha Christian School, 2624 West Palmetto Street, Florence, South Carolina 29501.
