Charlie Sturgeon

Florence, SC – Charlie L. Sturgeon, 56, passed away on Oct. 5, 2023 at his residence.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy, located at 426 S. Church Street, Florence. The family will be glad to visit and speak to those attending after the service.

Mr. Sturgeon was laid to rest at the family plot at Matthews Cemetery in Coward, SC.

Charlie was born in Marlboro County, the son of the late Johnnie Miles Sturgeon and Sally Owens Sturgeon. He worked several different skilled jobs throughout   his life, but he was best known for his work installing ceramic tile and as a tree climber with tree removal services.  Charlie enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, cooking out, working with landscaping; and he loved spending time with his family and friends.  Charlie had a special gift for selflessly helping others.

Survivors are his five siblings, Gail Sturgeon Cartrette, Billy Sturgeon, Jean Sturgeon Cook, Scott Sturgeon, and Joey Sturgeon; his many nieces, nephews and cousins; and he loved each and every one of them. He is preceded in death by his brother, Stewart “Buzzy” Sturgeon; brother- in-law, Jesse Cartrette, Sr. and a cousin that he treated as his brother, Jimmy Sturgeon.
