Florence, SC – Charles was called home on Oct. 4, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, leaving behind to grieve his loss his beloved wife of 52 years, Judy Cordrey Stark. He also leaves brothers, William and Paul Stark and sister, Cheryl Booth. He is preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Lockfaw.
Memorial services will be held at Victory Baptist Church in Darlington, SC. on Thursday, Oct 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
Charles was born in Snow Hill, Maryland, the son of the late William and Emily Stark. He was a veteran and served 3 years in Germany as a Sergeant in the Military Police and Colonel’s personal assistant and chauffeur. He returned home to work as a teller at Hebron Savings Bank in Hebron, Maryland where he met his soon to be bride, Judy Cordrey. He swept her off her feet and courted her in his new little Austin-Healy Convertible, proposing to her 4 weeks later. He later accepted a position in the office of Kopper’s Company in Salisbury, Maryland. He and Judy transferred with the company to Florence, SC in 1977. In 1992, he began working for himself restoring and selling antiques. He was especially sought after for the delicate job of scraping paint off of Furniture down to the original finish. Later, he also began selling realistic artificial fruit and vegetables, new to the market world which led to designing and making of Williamsburg, VA Christmas style exterior decorations, eventually selling them from coast to coast.
Memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 633 W. Smith Ave, Darlington, SC 29532.
