Florence, SC - William “Billy” Hartwell Carmon, Jr. finished his earthly journey on Thursday, January 6, 2022, after handling a perplexing medical situation with great grace and dignity.
A memorial service will be Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Florence. The family will speak to those attending after the service.
Billy, son of William Hartwell Carmon, Sr. and Thelma Friar Carmon, was born on September 2, 1951. He lived most of his life in the Ebenezer Community and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He graduated from Southside High School and attended Francis Marion College. Billy loved sports, especially baseball, particularly the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees.
In 2004 Billy was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, but the Lord allowed him to be healed and granted him 17 more years to live, enjoying his time with family and friends. Those were precious years for all those who knew and loved Billy. It also gave him the opportunity to give back to Cooks for Christ by delivering numerous chicken bog dinners during the Cooks for Christ Chicken Bog Benefits.
Billy worked hard throughout his life and never shrank from a challenge be it physical or mental. He worked with The Florence Morning News, The State and USA Today newspapers as an Independent Contractor.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hartwell and Thelma Carmon; his mother-in-law, Carleen C. Carrier; and his sister-in-law, Deborah Lynn Carrier.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Carrier Carmon; his beloved sister, Gail Carmon McLeod (Iley Ervin); his cherished father-in-law, W. Dale Carrier Sr.; loved brothers-in-law, William D. “Jay” Carrier Jr. (Pamela) and Randy W. Carrier; beloved aunt, Doris Carmon Tedder; Uncle, Cecil Carraway; numerous cherished cousins, nieces and nephews, children of cousins more like nieces and nephews. The numbers are many, his love for them unlimited.
The family thanks the staff at McLeod CCU for the attentive, compassionate care they gave Billy.
