William A. "Sonny" Powers, Jr, 93, passed away at the Veterans Home in Florene on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service will be Friday, Jan 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.  The family will speak to those attending after the service.

Mr. Powers was born in Timmonsville, the son of the late William A. Sr and Elizabeth Humphrey Powers.  He served his country in the US Navy.    Sonny retired from Timer Products where he worked as an Engineer.  Growing up on the family farm in the Sardis Community of Florence County, he enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.  Sonny was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

He was married to the late Nellie Ray Holladay Powers for 51 years at the time of her death in 2008.

Surviving are three daughters, Scarlett Browning, Kathy Horahan (Brian), Sharon Glover; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
