Obituary

Timmonsville, SC – Warren Lee Walkup, 93, died Wednesday Oct. 19, 2016 at his residence with his family at his side.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Timmonsville Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Byrd Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday afternoon October 22, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Walkup was born in Timmonsville, SC, the son of the late Samuel Lee and Mary Neely Carothers Walkup. He began his study at Presbyterian College, which was interrupted due to his tour of duty in the US Army during WWII. After his tour was over he continued his education and graduated from Presbyterian College. After graduation, Warren began working at the Florence County Health Dept. He was the first Florence County Recreational Director. He worked as the Postmaster in Timmonsville until his retirement. Warren was a member of Timmonsville Presbyterian Church. He served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and Treasurer of the church. He was a member of the Timmonsville American Legion Post #47.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, extra special father, always smiling, finding laughter and humor in most situations. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, fishing and playing golf.

Surviving are: his wife of 68 years, Alice Park Walkup; two daughters, Marsha (Mike) Tolson, Cathy (Charlie) Bazen; grandchildren, Michelle (Derek) Bridges, Daniel Bazen; three great-grandchildren, Brennan and Gavin Bridges and Leah Bazen; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Walkup and Mickey Walkup and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Walkup and his identical twin brother, Wallace Walkup.
