Mr. Vernon A. Lane, 85, entered into rest on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Vernon was born in Dillon County to the late Crom and Allie Cottingham Lane. He was a member of Lake Swamp Baptist Church, a church he loved dearly. An avid outdoorsman, Vernon spent his free time hunting and fishing, with a particular fondness for trips to Santee. He was also a skilled upholsterer who took great pride in the work he produced in his shop. He loved his family dearly and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Patricia Mixon Lane; daughters, Sherrie Lane Grooms (Robbie), Terrie Lane Anthony, Jennifer Lane Pigate (Bryan); grandchildren, Richard Lane Anthony, Nicholas Anthony, Jordan Pigate, Bryson Pigate; sisters, Shirley Poston, Anita Helms; brother, Graham Lane.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Jean Lane and Wanda Jeffords.

A funeral service to honor Vernon's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Lake Swamp Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Modrell and the Rev. Shawn Murphy will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
