Obituary

Thomas "Mitchell" Kirby, 71, of Timmonsville, SC, entered into rest on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Born in Florence County SC, he was a son of the late Roland T. Kirby and the late Margie Rogers Kirby.

He was a member of the Timmonsville Church of Christ. Mitchell Kirby served as the Florence County Councilman for District 4 for many years, representing the Timmonsville area. His tenure was marked by a deep commitment to his constituents, particularly senior citizens. He was instrumental in securing funding for the Timmonsville Community Center and was a vocal advocate for local infrastructure and community improvements.

In addition to his role on the County Council, he served as the Secretary and Chaplain for the council, where he was recognized for his leadership and spiritual guidance. Upon his retirement from the council in late 2020, he was honored with a special resolution for his years of dedicated service.

Surviving are his brother, Ronnie Kirby (Lesley); sister, Barbara Ward (Mickey).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Renee Register.

A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Timmonsville Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
