Florence, SC — Susan Hanna Bruton, 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Born in Sumter, South Carolina, Susan was the daughter of the late David Lee Hanna and Judy Vause Hanna. She devoted 35 years to education as an elementary school teacher with Florence School District One. Teaching primarily social studies and English, Susan shared her love of learning with generations of students. She was known for her dedication, patience, and genuine care for each child she taught, and she was deeply loved by her students. Susan was a bubbly, happy soul with a lighthearted spirit. She loved to laugh and brought warmth and joy to those around her. She was truly the heart of her family and a cherished friend to many. A faithful and active member of St. Paul Methodist Church, Susan served in the church choir, praise team, and Kindred Spirit, and was a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. Her faith and church family were an important part of her life. Susan was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She especially treasured time with her family and took great joy in being a loving and nurturing grandmother to Keaton (Elizabeth) Windham, Arabella Windham, Nicholas Windham, and Nathan Windham, and a great-grandmother to Jason Timothy Windham. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Ricky Bruton; two daughters, Jayme (Tim) Windham and Beth Bruton; three sisters, Lyn Soto, Karen Hanna, and Davia (John) Hoffecker; her grandchildren and great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by two beloved grandchildren, Taylor Paige Windham and Clayton Baites. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. In Lieu Of Flowers , the family requests that memorial donations be made in Susan's name to one of the following organizations: • The Carnation Foundation - https://carnationfoundation.org/donate/ • The Alzheimer's Association - https://www.alz.org/ • McLeod Hospice Services - https://www.mcleodhealth.org/foundation/ways-to-donate/ Guests are invited to sign the online guestbook at laytonandersonfh.com.
