Obituary

Stevenson "Steve" R. Moody, 82, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 7, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.  There will be a private burial at Lake Swamp Cemetery.  The family will receive family and friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. before the service at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Moody was born in Scranton, SC., the son of the late Russell Ellison and Mattie Dewitt Moody.   Steve was a member of Mechanicville Baptist Church and attended Midway Baptist Church. He enlisted in the Navy, serving on the USS Laffey.   He also served in the Naval reserve after his time in active duty.  After his military time, he came to Florence and worked with ESAB until he retired.  Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time outdoors with family and friends.

He was married to the late Joann Cross until her passing in Feb. 2025.

Surviving are two sons, Stevenson R (Marlene) Moody, Jr., Elbert Russell (Donna) Moody; daughter, Harriett (Jamie) Weatherford; brother, Ellison (Judy) Moody, brother-in-law, J.D. Norwood;  a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by a brother, William Dewitt Moody and sister, Martha Ann Norwood.
