Hartsville- Shirley McGilbra Hilson, 84, died at her residence on Saturday, October 24, 2015.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Florence. Visitation will begin at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, Florence.

Shirley was born in El Reno, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Galloway McGilbra. She served her country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Shirley was an avid bowler. She loved knitting and taught sewing at Hancock Fabrics for ten years. She worked at Pee Dee State Bank for a period of time as a bank teller. Shirley received a BA degree in Psychology.

Surviving are her children, two sons, Jerry (Brenda) Hilson, Monroe, NC, Bill (Kim) Hilson, Stillwater, Oklahoma; a daughter,Sharon Matthews, Hartsville; eight grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
