Timmonsville, SC – Shelva Powers Dority, 79, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018 after an illness.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lake Swamp Baptist Church. The family will have a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Shelva was born in Florence County, the daughter of the late Tom and Anna Timmons Powers. She attended Lake Swamp Baptist Church and also Green Hill Church of God of Prophecy. She retired from AT &T as a telephone operator.

Shelva was married to the late Patrick Dority.

Surviving are three sons, B. Henry (Karen) Dority, Patrick "Joey" (Angie) Dority, Delmar (Maria) Dority; four daughters, Patty Jean McDaniel, Barbara Anne Owens, Mary Helen (Henry) Brown, Sheila Darlene (Tim) Wallace; brother, Charles (Linda) Powers; sister, Anne Powers; brother-in-law, Richard Dority; thirteen grandchildren and number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Louise Griggs.
