IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Scott R.
Ross
June 18, 2024
Scott Raymond Ross, a resident of Florence, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2024. Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Scott was raised in a home filled with the bounty of a large garden, the sounds of clucking chickens, grunting hogs, and the sweetness of muscadine grapes ripening on the vine.
His early years were a testament to his hard work. As a young boy, he balanced odd jobs selling newspapers (the "Grit") and installing insulation during the summer, leaving just enough time for tinkering with his beloved old Renault, a symbol of his independent spirit. This dedication to learning and self-reliance led him to East Carolina University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering in 1979, followed by a Master's degree in Education just a year later.
After graduation, Scott moved to Lenoir, NC, where he began a 30-year career in the furniture industry. Always up for a new challenge, he later transitioned to the home health supply industry, relocating to Florence, SC. There he met the love of his life "my Donna" as he affectionately referred to her.
More than his professional accomplishments, Scott cherished his role as a husband, father and grandfather. He was affectionately known as "Pop" to his grandchildren, and his dedication to his family was a cornerstone of his life. Scott was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and his love for the Lord was evident in everything he did. His unwavering faith guided his actions and inspired those around him. He was an avid golfer, his passion for life extended to the hundreds of rounds of golf he played across the US and even venturing to Ireland for a memorable golfing experience with his friends and son. He found joy in spending time at his Cherry Grove Beach getaway, where he welcomed friends and family to share laughter and create lasting memories.
Scott is survived by his wife Donna Price Ross, son Jondavid Ross (Meredith), daughter Carrie Ross (Ashley), step-son, Braeden Crocker, step-daughters, Cayce Coker (Ryan), and Raygan Crocker, sister, Donna Ross Chadwick (Jeff), and 10 grandchildren.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents Donald Raymond Ross and Mary Auten Ross, and sister Mary Kathryn Ross.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Scott will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
