Ryan Thomas Hicks, Sr, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday evening, Jan. 11, 2025.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church. The family will speak to those attending after the service at the church.

Mr. Hicks was born in Florence County, the son of the late William Wilbur Hicks and the late Lois Rhinehart Hicks.  He and his family were faithful members of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church but in recent years have become active at Sardis Baptist Church.  Ryan was an avid baseball player and received scholarships from, and attended both Wingate Junior College and Newberry College.   He enjoyed a long career in the insurance business.  His ability to talk to anyone, anywhere enabled him to be successful.  After his playing days he began coaching American Legion Baseball, Florence County Recreational Baseball, High School Basketball and Golf.

He was married to his devoted wife, Barbara Norris Hicks.  Surviving in addition to his wife are his three adoring children, one daughter Shawn Hicks (Allan) Haynes; two sons Ryan (Tina) Hicks, Jr and Will (Heidi) Hicks; a brother, Freddie (Joy) Hicks; a sister, Glenda (Bobby) Cottingham; his loving grandchildren, Jake Thompson, Julia Thompson, Bryson Hicks, Rylee Hicks, Gracelyn Hicks, Jabari Hatfield, and Noah Valentin; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Steve Hicks and Francis Hicks.
