Obituary

Florence- Rudolph C. "Duggan" Pierce, 95, died November 1, 2016 at the McLeod Hospice House.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment was in Sparrow Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Pierce was born in Timmonsville, SC, the son of the late Peter Doyle and Minnie Taylor Pierce. "Duggan" as he was fondly known in the Timmonsville area operated the 76 Grill for many years. Mr. Pierce proudly served his country from 1936-1945 in the US Army. He served during the Battle of the Bulge. Seventy-two years later, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart in a ceremony held at the Veterans Park in Florence on January 14, 2016.

He was married to the late Willie Mae Lee McLaughlin Pierce, the mother of his step children.

Surviving are: two daughters, Rosemary P. Sansbury and Lynnette P. (Tom) Holston; a son, Randall (Anita) Pierce; grandchildren, J. Bryant (Emily) Lee, Stephen (Angela) Sansbury, great-grandchildren, Zachary and Parker Lee. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews; step- children, Annetta (Teddy) Hammond, Betty McLaughlin, Sheila McLaughlin and Linda (Allen) Johnson; eight step-grandchildren and eleven step-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth R. Pierce and Glenn M. Pierce, his sisters, Lonie Eagerton, Lillie Dell Jones, and his brothers, Ernest, Aron, Grover and Bert Pierce.
