Ronald "Ronnie" Lavon Benton, Sr. 77, known to his friends as "Big Dog" died October 27, 2025 at his home. Mr. Benton was born in Florence, and raised in the Cartersville Community, the son of the late Lee F. and Margie Dawkins Benton.

Mr. Benton worked as a Foreman at Sumter Builders and then went to work in Horry County, until an accident on the job forced him to retirement. Mr. Benton opened Murphy's Lounge with his brother Kenny. Ronnie finally retired to Scarborough's Landing and became an avid golfer around the area.

Survivors are; his son, Ronald Lavon Benton Jr; daughter, Charlie Benton Smith(Jeff) of Powhatan, VA; a granddaughter he loved to spoil, Marissa Charles of Powhatan, VA; one brother, Weldon Lee Benton of Florence; special nephew, John Benton and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lionel Benton and Kenny Benton; 2 sisters, Bonnie Windham and Patricia Osborne.

The family will have a time of visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.
