IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Louis
Stevens
June 14, 2016
Timmonsville --- Bob Stevens, 82, husband of Faye Townsend, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at home.
Mr. Stevens was born December 26, 1933 in Deland, Florida, son of the late John Stevens and Cordia Bell Stevens. He received a BS from Stetson University, DeLand Florida, and a Masters of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Georgia way back when he thought he wanted to be a minister. After trying out the idea of being a Baptist minister, and then a Presbyterian minister, he spent most of his working years as a group therapist, teacher/lecturer, and director of clinical treatment programs in alcohol/drug addiction in Georgia and South Carolina. The last 22 years of his 31 year career were spent as director of the Palmetto Center in Florence, an inpatient addiction treatment center operated by the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Department.
He was known to write many letters to the editor, some of which were angry (intentionally so), and most of which were funny (intentionally so). Since 2013, he wrote columns for the Florence Morning News as a member of the Citizen Columnist Corps, as the editor had stopped answering his mail.
A member of Indiantown Presbyterian Church, he sang in the choir and played percussion.
Mr. Stevens is survived by his muse and beloved wife of 23 years, Faye Townsend, their 2 dogs, Jake and Bella, his 3 sons, Sam Stevens and wife Michelle, Aaron Stevens and wife Edit, and Daniel Stevens and wife Tamara, and 9 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 17 from 6:00-8:00 at the home at 214 North Kershaw Street, Timmonsville. Service will be held Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 at Indiantown Presbyterian Church, 4865 Hemingway Highway, Hemingway South Carolina. Another opportunity for visitation will be held after the service at the church, and fun and laughter is allowed, even at church, even after a funeral.
Memorials may be made to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, 5159 Lee Highway, Arlington, Virginia or to Indiantown Presbyterian Church.
