Timmonsville, SC- Richard L. McElveen, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, January 13, 2018.

A funeral service will be Friday,January 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Church.The family will have a time of visitation following the service.

Mr. McElveen was born in Florence County, the son of the late Richard Jerome and Merle Davidson McElveen.He was a tobacco buyer for the Dimon Company for 20 years. Richard was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. He was a Deacon of the church, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Men's Sunday School Class and he loved playing golf.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Gloria Brown McElveen; three daughters, Kelli (Dan) Baker,Glenda (Todd) Gilmore,Sherry (Gene) Strickland; a brother,Stanley McElveen and his sister,Aurelia Catron; eight granddaughters,two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
