Obituary

COMMITTAL SERVICE - The committal service for Richard Creel has been rescheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Florence – William Richard Creel, 66 died Thursday, October 1, 2015 with his family at his side at a Florence hospital.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2015 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Florence. Interment will follow in the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery, Timmonsville. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.

Richard was born in Florence the son of the late Willie Richard and Alice Langston Creel. He was a 1967 graduate of Southside High School, attended Clemson University, and graduated from the USC School of Pharmacy. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Army with the rank of First Lieutenant. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he was a member of the John Wesley Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Men; he served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees. Richard was a member of the Florence Gideons-East Camp serving as its' current president. He owned the Colonial Drug Store in Florence for 20 years and later worked for Revco and CVS. Following his retirement, he enjoyed gathering at Hardee's with old and new friends. His greatest joys were spending time with his family and serving his Lord Jesus by telling others about Him and giving out Bibles through the Gideons.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Gail Pierce Creel, Florence; a son, William Creel, Greer; a daughter, Lara Henry, her husband Jim and their children Jenna and Luke, Elgin; three brothers Charles Creel, and his wife Judy, Seneca; Randy Creel and his wife Cathy, Florence; Jimmy Creel and his wife Fran, Greer; a sister, Rhona Davis, Diamondhead, MS; and nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
