Rachel Lee Stokes Fields, 73, closed her eyes in this earthly home and awakening to her Heavenly father arms on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

A memorial service will be Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. The family will have a time of visitation after the service at the funeral home.

Born in Sumter and lived in Lynchburg for all of her life, she was the daughter of the late Lawton Q. and Vernie Conyers Stokes.  Rachel was a graduate of Mayewood High School, Class of 1970.  She worked as a bookkeeper at  Hudgens Academy School for 23 years.  From there she was employed with the Lee County Magistrates Office for 23 years and retired.  Rachel was the pillar of strength for family and friends.  She loved spending time with them and was always there to help.  Rachel loved decorating her home and enjoyed hosting family and friends for special occasions throughout the years.  A favorite of her family was "Rachels Cornbread Dressing" at holiday dinners.  Traveling was a favorite hobby especially, the mountains and beach trips.

She was the widow of Theron Fields, Jr.  Surviving are her daughter, Holly (Robert) Kirven; brother, Clyde Stokes; sisters, Mildred (Quay) Adams, Claudene Jordan, Joyce Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during Rachels journey.  Thank you to McLeod Hospital and the Hospice House for their compassion and care to Rachel and our family.
