Obituary

With profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss, we announce the passing of Pamela "Pam" Matthews Hancock who left us on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the age of 77 after a brief illness.

Born on November 18, 1948 in Salters, South Carolina to the late James and Mary Lou McDonald Matthews. Pam was later blessed with a stepmother, the late Frances Ard Matthews, after the unexpected passing of her mother Mary Lou, at the young age of 8.

Pam spent her younger years in South Carolina and Norfolk, Virginia. Shortly after graduating from High School, she met Don, her loving husband of 56 years. Married June 13, 1969 they made life together and resided in Effingham. Together they raised two children, Donald and Tracy.

Pam was a Godly woman; she loved her church and church family at Effingham Church of God. She spent most Sundays in her favorite seat. She cared for her Sunday School Class and time they spent together. Pam had a talent for baking and sharing her pies and cakes with many. She enjoyed her supper club outings with much fun and laughter. Purple and Orange were two of her favorite colors as they represented her all time favorite, The Clemson Tigers. But one of her greatest loves were her grandchildren, she adored them with no reservation, the apples of her eye. There is no mistake she loved them beyond words, all it took was a single conversation and it was obvious, she was their "Nanny."

She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and countless friends that will miss her deeply.

Left to cherish her memory; Donald Hanock her loving husband, a daughter; Tracy (Keith) Hancock, Granddaughters; Sloane Fields and Stokes Fields, Grandsons; Cody Hancock and Brandon Allen, sister-in law, brother-in laws, nieces, nephews and many cousins. She was proceeded in death by her son Donald Hancock Jr. and sister Cherly (Barry) Roberts.

Funeral Service will be held at Cypress Grove Church, formerly known as Lebanon Free Will Baptist on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 2:00pm with a visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.
