Obituary

Florence, SC- Opal Powers Ward, 87, passed away on August 9, 2018.

A Funeral service will be Monday Aug, 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Methodist Manor, 2100 Twin Church Rd., Florence, SC. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery. A time of visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. before the service.

Opal was born in Marion, SC, the daughter of the late Thomas Cecil and Eunice Lane Powers. She was a founding member of Dawsey United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for more than forty years. She had a very full and active life as an educator, homemaker, and serving the community. After graduating with a Master Degree in Education from Winthrop College, she taught in the Public School system for more than thirty years. One of her particular passions was her involvement with the Evening Lions Club where she held many offices within the chapter, ultimately serving as President. She was honored for her service by the Florence Lions Club with the award of "Florence Lioness of the Year".

Opal was married to the late Cecil W. Ward, Sr.

Surviving are a daughter, Marlene Ward; three sons, Dennis Ward, Travis (Kathy) Ward, Mat (Laurie) Ward; her grandchildren, Christina (Jesse) Wilkes, Alex Ward, Banks Ward, and Summers Ward.
