Timmonsville, SC – Nelson A. "Sonny" Houghtaling, 83, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017.

A funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Timmonsville, SC. The family will speak to those attending after the service at the church.

"Sonny" was born in Loch Sheldrake, NY, the son of the late Alvie and Agnes Schmitz Houghtaling.He served in the US Army.Sonny enjoyed fishing,hunting and spending time outside with his chickens. He was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church.

He is survived by Kathy Newman Houghtaling; children, Rusty (Tina) Houghtaling, Tara (Chris) Seeley; Dennis and Roberta Perry, Todd Perry and Rick Emert; grandchildren Meaghan, Emily, Casey, Melissa and Caeleb; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He had a special neighbor, Lisa Seeley and family who helped care for him. Sonny was preceded in death by a brother, William Houghtaling and a sister, Janet Stringham.
