Morris W. Jones, 93, went to be with his Savior, Thursday evening Sept. 22, 2016 with his family at his side.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. before the service at the Funeral Home.

Born in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late Sebron W. and Nell Mae Batson Jones. He was a World War II veteran of the Burma, India, China Theater. He held undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University where he taught for 7 years before moving to the University of Virginia where he taught for 37 years. He was an active member of The Gideons, University Baptist Church, Charlottesville, VA and the First Baptist Church of Florence.

He was predeceased by his wives, Dollie Ruth Jones and Peggy Gregory.

He is survived by three children; Dee K. Jones Pruitt, M. Wiley Jones, Jr., Stephen B. Jones, four grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He also had three stepchildren by his second wife Peggy Gregory. They are Willis Gregory III, Betsy G. Marshall, and Johnny Gregory.
