Maxie Everette Connor, 60, died April 8, 2025 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence.

A memorial service will be Friday, April 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.  The family will receive family and friends  beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Connor was born in Sumter, South Carolina, the son of Andrena Copeland and the late Willie Mack Connor.  Maxie graduated from Thomas Sumter Academy in 1983.  He was 26 years old when he was in a work- related injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down, but Maxie never let that slow him down or get him down.    He went on to the University of South Carolina and received his degree in Engineering.  He was very active in the South Carolina Wheelchair Games and was nationally ranked in swimming and tennis.  Over the years, he lived in Sumter, Florence, Columbia and Timmonsville.

Surviving are his mother of Timmonsville; sister, Dana Connor Medley, two nephews Frank "Scooter" (Ling) Medley, Hampton (Melinda) Medley; two nieces, Spencer-Kaitlyn Medley, Olivia Pearl Medley and his uncle, Dr. Walter E. "Ernie" (Derinda) Connor,

The family would like to acknowledge the loving support of Marty Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. Frank White, Andrena's Bible Study group, Mr. and Mrs. Blake Bondy, the LYMI Sunday School class and all their friends.
