IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Louise
Davis
March 26, 1950 – February 4, 2026
Mary Louise Davis, 75, of Florence County, South Carolina, departed this life on February 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy defined by faith, compassion, resilience, and the countless lives she touched.
Born on March 26, 1950, in Florence County to the late Virginia Hilton and Sonny Lowery, Mary was lovingly raised by her grandparents, George Henry Brown and Lucy Brown. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a lifelong member of New Zion Baptist Church in Sardis, South Carolina, under the leadership of Reverend Myers. Mary lived a life of service. As an elementary school teacher for 2nd and 4th grade, she was known for taking on the students others labeled as "behind" or "hard to teach." She often said she had the children people considered hopeless cases and she proved every one of them wrong. With compassion, patience, and a deep belief in their potential, she helped them discover confidence, curiosity, and the joy of learning. As a single mother, Mary worked multiple jobs to provide for her children and to care for others in her community. Her home was always a place of refuge a safe, warm space where people felt welcomed, fed, and loved. She was a beloved caretaker whose kindness radiated through every act of service. Mary was known for her home cooked, scratch made meals, especially her family famous apple jelly cake and chicken bog. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, crafting, and singing hymns each morning. She also enjoyed relaxing with the Food Network, and Guy Fieri was her favorite. Her unwavering faith guided her life. She lived it quietly but powerfully through generosity, gentleness, and the way she always put others before herself. She is survived by her sisters: Mae Alice Hart, Shirley Wilson, Patrica Hilton, Ruthie Mae Hilton, Linda Brown, Corliss Lowery, and Saprina Dowdy. She is survived by her brothers: Leander Lowery, Gregory Lowery, Robert Lowery, John Hilton Jr., and Calvin Hilton She is survived by her children: Deitric Davis, Raye (Brianna) Davis, and Kaye (Vronn) Pride Her grandchildren: Dimitrious Davis, DeAndrea Thomas, Emery Pride, Ethan Pride, Gabriel Davis, Christian Davis, and Noah Davis and a great-grandchild, Naylani Thomas. Mary's life was a blessing, and her memory will remain a treasure. Her legacy of love, faith, and strength lives on in her family, her students, and everyone who was fortunate enough to be touched by her gentle spirit.
