Timmonsville, SC  - Markel Shan Lawson, 57, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church, Florence.  Burial will be at a later day at Florence Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 p.m. and until 5:30 p.m. The family will receive visitors at 538 Magna Carta, Florence at other times.

Mr. Lawson was born in Dalton, Georgia, the son of Harriel Lawson and the late Roma Streety Seals.  Mark taught in the Public School System in the Pee Dee and surrounding areas until he retired.  He loved his students that he worked with on the elementary  level, the basketball court, softball field and  his special needs students.  He taught in the Reading Recovery program.

Surviving are his wife Cynthia "Cindy" Hutchinson Lawson; daughter, Cherisse (Steven) Thayer; step-son, James Shelton Cooper, Jr; step-daughter, Ashley Huggins; brothers, Zac (Mandy) Lawson, Adam Lawson; sisters, Kim (Rick) Palmer, Emilee Lawson; step-father, Robert "Hence" Seals; step-mother, Lela Lawson, father-in-law, Willie Dell Hutchinson and all of his loving grandchildren, ,Katlin Cooper, Madison Cooper, Marley Cooper, Lilly-J Huggins, Micah Thayer, Luke Thayer, Eva Jane Thayer.  He is preceded in death by brother, Brett Lawson, sister, Misty Seals.
