Obituary

Isadore McQueen "Mac" Truluck died peacefully in his sleep June 9th at his Sardis home. He was born in 1935 and grew up on the narrowed paved road in Sumter County. After his marriage to Martha Ann Yarborough in 1959 they moved to the other side of his beloved Lynches River and made Sardis their home for their fifty five years of marriage. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and served faithfully for many years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of the US Army where he completed Ranger training and served in the military police. Mac was also a proud lifetime member of Benton Lodge #26. He loved gardening and sharing the bounty with family and friends. He loved his corner lot which he called his "little piece of Heaven on Earth". He never tired of working to keep it beautiful. Mac was an auctioneer by profession. He sold markets throughout the tobacco industry including several states and three seasons in Africa. He considered Roxboro, NC his masterpiece. He sold that market for 35 years and called it his home away from home. He along with other top notch tobacco men built Roxboro into the largest "one set" market in the Old Belt. Being named "Kentucky Colonel" by the governor during one of his seasons selling there was one of the highlights of his career`. He was a unique and unforgettable man who never met a stranger, never forgot a face or name. He had a favorite analogy. He said "man was like a horse in that some were work horses and others were show horses" he felt he was a combination of both. Mac remained loyal to his roots and never forgot those with whom he worked and played along the way.
