Florence- Linwood E. "Mike" Tarte, 90. died August 12, 2015 at his residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sansbury-Hill Cemetery, Timmonsville. Visitation will be Friday, August 14, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Tarte was born in Timmonsville, SC, the son of the late George E. and Linnie Mae Kirby Tarte. Mike served his country in the European and Asia theaters during WWII. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, more recently, he had been attending Peniel Baptist Church. In 1957, he founded and was operator of Foreign Motors, Ltd., Baltimore, Maryland, until retirement in 1988 when he moved to Florence. He enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards, NASCAR, westerns on TV, and was an avid reader.
Surviving are his wife of Florence, Barbara Gammon Tarte; a daughter, Linda R. Tarte, Florence; a son Michael L. Tarte, Baltimore, Maryland; Theresa Sanderford who was like a daughter; and a sister-in-law, Mary Tarte, Florida. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Doran and siblings, Kizzie Tarte, Ada Mae Anderson, Evelyn Lane, Jessie Blackmon, Annie Dell Tolson, Bessie Lou Doughty, James Tarte, George E. (Billy) Tarte, Betty Rhea Sapp and Georgia Faye Rhoden.
