Florence, SC - Karen Newton Daniels, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026

Born in Hartsville, SC, Karen was the daughter of the late Harvey Jordan Newton, Sr. and Mary Ulmer Fair.

Karen was a graduate of Columbia College, where she obtained her Master's degree.  She spent her life devoted to teaching elementary school children. She was a member of Northgate Baptist Church.

Karen is predeceased by her parents; a sister, Mary Jo Ferguson; and two brothers, Barry Carlyle Newton and Richard Shaw (Dick) Newton. She is survived by a brother, Harvey J. Newton, Jr., 12 nieces and nephews, and 14 great-nieces and nephews. She was beloved by many first and second cousins during her lifetime. Karen will be remembered for her love for her family, her sense of humor, and her never-wavering ability to voice her requests.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, in the Layton-Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will have a time of visitation immediately following the service.
