Mr. John Charles Jeffords, Jr., 81, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Born in Florence, SC, he was a son of the late John Charles Jeffords, Sr. and the late Maude McElveen Jeffords.

John served in the United States Navy before spending many years with BellSouth, where he retired after a dedicated career as a lineman. He enjoyed playing music, and in his younger years, he and his brothers had formed a band together.

Surviving are his daughters, Mercedes Sears (Joshua), Melanie Carpenter (Allen), Michelle Westfall (Ron); son, John Jeffords, III (Amanda); brothers, Jackie Jeffords, Danny Jeffords; sisters, Veronica "Ronnie" Cooper, Marilyn Sanders; grandchildren, Brittany Davis, Cameron Carpenter, Tim Boseman, Caylee Anderson, Tristan Baker, Jacob Jeffords, Bryleigh Jeffords, Braden Jeffords, Everett Sears, Braddox Jeffords; several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine "Darlene" Jeffords; brothers, Ricky Jeffords, Billy Jeffords, Wayne Jeffords; sister, Betty Kay.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Pine Grove Cemetery of Darlington County. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home prior to the service on Thursday.
