Obituary

This world has been blessed to have John Joseph Guerriero, III (Johnny) for 61 ½ years, entering as the first-born child of John and Marcia Guerriero and leaving as the beloved husband of Davis Guerriero.

Johnny was born June 23, 1963, in Monroe, LA, and was promoted to the Heavenly Kingdom on December 22, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's resulting from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

The essence of Johnny's life was generosity, graciously sharing of his financial and material possessions, as well as his intellect, time, and faith.

After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Davis Louise Ellerbe Guerriero, together she and Johnny had four children who will miss his affectionate humor and abundant laughter: John Joseph, IV and his wife Anne Marie, Anna Louise and her fiancé Will Fowler, Luke Davis, and Martha Grace.

Johnny is also survived by his mother, Marcia Guerriero, 7 siblings: Warren, Delle Guerriero Tyler (Steve), Mark (Monica), Matthew (April), Paul (Carolyn), Anne Guerriero Welsh (Doug), and Peter (Jennifer); Mother & Father-In-Law, Martha & Bud Ellerbe; Brother-In-Law, Chip (Melissa), and Sister-In-Law, Gwynn (Jon); 26 nieces and nephews: Grant, Bethany, Stephen Tyler (Lindsey), Claire Tyler, Stuart Tyler, Ainsley Beckett (Austin), Annabeth Hibbard (Tucker), Allison, Matt, Isabelle, Lilly, Adeline, Chandler McDonald (Colin), Cullen (Olivia), Marcia Anne Welsh, Madeline Welsh, James Welsh, Annabelle Welsh, JP, Grady, Molly, Mark Ryan, Baker Ellerbe, Vic Landon (Carla), Ell Landon (Cat), and Thomas Landon; 13 great nieces and nephews, numerous aunts and uncles, and lifelong friends, Chip O'Pry and Tommy Tharp.

Greeting Johnny in heaven are his Father, John Joseph Guerriero, Jr, and his grandparents, Edelle and John Joseph Guerriero, Sr, and Louise and Albert Davis.

Johnny grew up in Monroe, LA and after graduating from Northeast Louisiana University Pharmacy School in 1988, he moved to Florence, SC to begin his career at McLeod Hospital as a Pharmacist. After working many years in the pharmaceutical field, Johnny opened Professional Pharmacy Services Incorporated, pioneering the Pharmacy I.V. Infusion & Home Health model of care in the Florence area.

Johnny's fierce commitment to the quality of care for his patients was frequently expressed by appreciative nurses who would give testimony to his willingness to walk them through emergent situations in the home care setting, at all hours of the night. This legacy of service to those vulnerable through failing health was the framework of Johnny's life.

Johnny honored God and his family by his deep love and dedication to both, prioritizing his family in all aspects of life, and modeling high morals and impeccable integrity. Known to his children as the most serious and unserious person they knew, Johnny was present in the small things like math drills at the kitchen table, the big things like Sports and Daughters & Daddy dances, and the routine things like morning school rides listening to the same songs on their favorite CD: WHO LET THE DOGS OUT, BRING ME TO LIFE, and WHERE IS THE LOVE.

As the spiritual leader of his family, Johnny served at St. Anthony Catholic Church and School as Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Sacristan, Head of Hospitality (usher), School Board President and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.

As a beloved friend, whose infectious spirit of strength & kindness drew you into fellowship, he knew just how to brighten the day with his charismatic storytelling, infused with humor and much laughter.

To honor his life of love and service, a funeral Mass will be celebrated for Johnny at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 12:00, following the visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Layton Anderson Funeral Home.

Johnny's Legacy of Generosity and Love acted out in Service will continue as we strive to build God's Kingdom on Earth.

The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.  Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.  ISAIAH 57: 1-2

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at The Hospice House, Martha Belle, Sylvia Rouse, and all the family and friends who have been a support system for the last 10+ years.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church and School, Alzheimer's Association, or Dementia Society of America.
