Florence- John Nelson Blackmon, 85, died after an illness on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 19, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church.Interment will follow at Welsh Neck Baptist Cemetery, Society Hill, SC.

Mr. Blackmon was born in Society Hill, SC, the son of the late William Daniel and Martha Beck Blackmon. John was retired from the US Air Force, as E-7, Master Sgt. He worked in Military Transport. He served during the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam . He retired from Florence-Darlington Tec, as a purchasing agent. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was involved in various church activities, serving as deacon and church treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Sompayrac Blackmon, who died in 2012. Surviving are his son, John M. Blackmon, Florence. He is preceded in death by Douglas Craig Blackmon.
