JOAN FAY MATTA Our hearts are deeply saddened as we share the loss of our loved one, Joan Fay Matta, born Sept. 19, 1933, and deceased March 11, 2016.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, retired U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Robert Patrick Matta (1934-1979); her sister, Jean Marouchoc Hodges and husband, Maston "Mac" Hodges of Vilas, North Carolina; and her mother, Alice Ulshafer Marouchoc and father, Michael "Mickey" James Marouchoc of Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania.
She worked for the U.S. Air Force Base Exchange at Shaw Air Force Base. She also worked at Woolworth's in Sumter. Joan was a longtime volunteer, serving our veterans at the VFW in Sumter. She loved to listen to country western music; work crossword puzzles; and watch old movies. Joan was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed NASCAR racing.
Family members include daughters, Debra Matta DeBruycker and husband, James DeBruycker, Roberta Matta Vannoy and husband, Kevin Vannoy, Trudy Matta Collins and husband, Danny Collins; son, Thomas Matta and wife, Donna Duncan Matta; grandchildren, Brian Misenheimer and wife, Kellie, Brittany DeBruycker Wittmis and husband, Jonathan, Brandon DeBruycker, Lauren DeBruycker, Kevin "Lane" Vannoy, Dustin Vannoy, Heather Vannoy Adams and husband, Tyler, Kristina Stagg and husband, David, Jennifer Matta Paxton and husband, Jason, Veronica Matta Ward and husband, Shawn, Teresa Collins and Amber Collins; and great-grandchildren, Brayden Alexander Misenheimer, Nathaniel Patrick Misenheimer, Axel Wade Loveall (with his father Austin Loveall), Kennedy Claire Vannoy, Liam Hayden Vannoy, Lily Gabrielle Vannoy, Emerson "Jax" Adams, AydaGrae Chambers Adams, Morgan Stagg, Damian Matta, Pheobe Matta-Gawlick, Xavier Matta-Gawlick, Wyatt Paxton, Levi Robert Patrick Ward, Kenzie-Mae Olivia Ward and Jacob Blake Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home in Florence.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Florence National Cemetery.
