Timmonsville, SC – James D. "Jimmy" Pigate, Sr., 86, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel at Florence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.
Mr. Pigate was born in Florence County, the son of the late Eustace Eddie and Irene Floyd Pigate. Jimmy retired from DuPont after 25 years of service. He also retired from the Florence County Sheriff Department as a Deputy Sheriff. He was a Founding member of the Timmonsville Rescue Squad and served as Chief for many years. He served on the Timmonsville Town Council and was the longest serving member at the time of his death. Jimmy was a member of Benton Masonic Lodge #26. Mr. Pigate was a member of "Omar" Shrine Temple and a member of the Florence "Omar" Provost Guard and in 1997 he served as director. Jimmy was a member of Timmonsville First Baptist Church and served on the board of Deacons.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Janice "Jan" Copeland Pigate; daughter, Celia Ann Ardis; two sons, James Donald (Winnie) Pigate, Jr, John Ronald Pigate. He is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Jacquelyn Donnelle Pigate Wooten and son-in-law, Eddie Joe Ardis. Surviving are three step-children, Dr. John R. (Joanie) Prentice, Jr., Frank Lloyd Prentice and step-daughter, Janice R. Raines; four grandchildren, two great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and one great-great-grandson and four step-grandchildren. Jimmy is preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas L. Pigate, Norwood O. Pigate, three sisters, Emma Leah P. Buddin, Mildred Lucille P. Morris and Marjorie P Hicks-Drawdy.
