Florence- Jerry Laverne Turner, 74, passed away peacefully Nov. 30, 2016 at his home after a long illness.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 before the service on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Friends may visit at other times at 5106 Bailey Lane, Florence.

Jerry was born in Florence, the son of the late Robert and Rhetta Mae Purvis Turner. Jerry served in the US Navy. He worked for the Florence Fire Department. He retired as a long distance truck driver.

Surviving are his daughter, Janice Lee (Jeffery Johnson); a son, Jody (Dayle) Turner; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Pat Conyers and a lifelong friend, Billy Fields. He is preceded in death by his wife, Richardene "Rickie" Springs Turner, a brother, Ronald W. Turner and a sister, Bobbie S. Carlisle.
