Obituary

Mr. Jerry Strickland, 80, entered into rest peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born in Olanta, SC, he was a son of the late Alex and Letha Lynch Strickland. He was a longtime member of Lake Swamp Baptist Church where he had served on the deacon board and the usher board for many years. He joined the United States Army at an early age. After serving his country, he went to work for Nolan Co. and North American Van Line. He later worked for Union Carbide and L-Tec and then retired from ESAB after 35 years of service. He was the owner and operator of Strickland Pump Service for 32 years. Along the way he met many people that he got to know and love. He loved hunting and fishing and was formerly the President of Pine Top Hunting Club. One of his favorite things was watching his granddaughter, Bayleigh play soft ball. He would go to her games even when he didn't feel well because she was his heart. She would often say "Come on Papa, you can make it." Jerry had an unselfish heart, never wanting much for himself, he just wanted to take care of his family. He was known as a man of few words unless discussing hunting or fishing with one of his friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ronnie Gibson, Fletcher Lynch and Melissa Townsend for their loving care. Barbara would like to thank her children, Leon and Amanda for the love they showed their father. The family also thanks each one for the food, cards, visits, phone calls during this time of grief. Please keep them in your prayers now and forever, may God Bless you.

"It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone for part of us went with you the day God called you home."

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Barbara Mixon Strickland of the home; his son, Jerry Leon Strickland of the home; his daughter, Amanda Graham (Curt) of Florence, SC; granddaughter, Bayleigh Graham; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur Strickland, Floyd Strickland, Johnny Strickland, Bobby Joe Strickland; sisters, Leona Strickland Miles, Cameron Strickland.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in Lake Swamp Baptist Church. Dr. Joe Willard will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The Directors of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home is caring for the family.
