James W. Gainey, 71, finished his earthly journey on Sunday morning Jan. 19, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Florence Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Gainey was born in Tampa, Florida, the son of the late Fred W. and Learlean Green Gainey.  He retired for Nucor Steel.  James enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing cars and most of all he loved to play golf.  He was a member of Lynchburg Methodist Church. Most Sundays he was on the front steps greeting those attending with a big smile and "Welcome."

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jordan Gainey; sons, Brad (Dana) Gainey, Charlie Gainey; brother, Wayne (Jackie) Gainey; sisters, Denise (George) Gaddy, Sharon (Jeff) Ard, Penny Tallon and Margie (John) Davis; and his loving grand-daughters, Olivia and Anna Peyton Gainey and his great nephew, Logan Jordan.  He is preceded in death by his brother, Stevie Gainey and sister-in-law, Darlene Gainey.
