James Christopher Smith, 53, entered into rest on Friday, October 17, 2025, at his home. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born in Darlington County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late James Albert Smith and Betty Jean Jones Smith. A gifted auto mechanic, he was especially talented in building race engines and took great pride in his work. His passion for drag racing, motorcycles, and four-wheelers reflected his love for speed and craftsmanship. He was affectionately known as "Go-Fast".  He loved his family and especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Tonya Smith; children, James Cody Smith (Taylor), Ramsie Lee Smith (Seth), Kelsie Beth Smith (Cruise), and Jamie Goins (Cassie); grandchildren, Dyson Smith, Brantlee Heath, Bradley Goins, Olivia Gulledge, Nolan Smith, and Baylor Goins; brother, Billy Joe Smith, Sr.; nieces, Phyllis Cassidy and Donna Dority (Billy); his mother-in-law, Evangeline Litton; and many other extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Billy Joe Smith, Jr.
