Jacquelyn Cox passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald “Ron” Cobb Cox.

Born in Green Sea, South Carolina, Jacquelyn was the daughter of Jack Clemons and Doris Hayes Clemons. She grew up surrounded by cousins on both sides of her family, creating a childhood filled with fun, family, and plenty of mischief. Throughout her life, she loved reminiscing about those days and sharing stories of the many antics she and her cousins enjoyed together.

Jacquelyn graduated from Green Sea High School and continued her education at Columbia College, where she pursued library science.

On December 22, 1967, Jacquelyn married Ron, beginning a life together centered around family, friendships, and many treasured memories. Jacquelyn embraced a full and active life, devoting her time to her work and family while also enjoying bridge, tennis, her involvement with the Junior Service League, and Clemson football games.

Jacquelyn was a devoted mother to her daughter, Heather Butler and her husband, Jeff, and her son, Ryan Cox and his wife, Crystal. As much as she cherished being a mother, becoming a grandmother brought her tremendous joy. She adored her grandchildren, Hayes, Sarah Jeffries, and Matthew, and took great pride in being an active part of their lives.

In her later years, some of Jacquelyn’s greatest joys came from simply showing up for the people she loved. She happily traveled to birthday parties, school events, cheer competitions, and soccer games, rarely missing an opportunity to celebrate her grandchildren and the milestones in their lives.

Cherry Grove held a particularly special place in Jacquelyn’s heart. Over the years, it became the backdrop for countless family gatherings, laughter, stories, and traditions. Many of the family’s most treasured memories were made there, and those times together will remain an enduring part of Jacquelyn’s legacy.

Above all, Jacquelyn treasured her family. From the stories of her childhood with her cousins to the years spent raising her own children and later cheering from the sidelines for her grandchildren, family remained at the center of her life. Her stories, traditions, love, and presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 9th in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home.
