Irby M. Weatherly, 89, passed away on May 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Cartersville Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Fair Hope Cemetery on Lynches River Road in Lamar. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Cartersville Baptist.

Irby was born in Florence County, the son of the late Hannibal Lee and Rose Saverance Weatherly. He grew up in the Cartersville community and, after graduating from high school, proudly served in the United States military. Returning home, he became a successful downtown merchant in Timmonsville, founding Weatherly Hardware in 1976. In 1997, he and his sons relocated the business to its current location on Smith Street, where he remained actively involved in daily operations for 49 years.

He attended Fair Hope Church for many years, and more recently Cartersville Baptist Church. He held a pilot's license for many years and enjoyed flying throughout the region as a beloved hobby. Above all, he treasured time with family—attending gatherings that brought several generations together.

He was married to the late Gayle Hodge Weatherly until her passing on May 31, 2020.

Surviving are his sons, Irby M. "Bud" Weatherly Jr. and his wife, Jill; and Kyle Weatherly and his wife, Susan; his brother, Lee Weatherly and wife, Connie; his sister, Gwen Clements; grandchildren, Katelyn Peake (Matthew) and David Weatherly (Madison); and six great-grandchildren: Grayson, Ayden, Holden, Lyndsey, Kendall, and Kyla. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wib, Bobby, and "Little Bill" Weatherly, and sisters, Marjorie Truluck and Edna Virginia Fountain.
