Helen McElveen, 85, left this earthly home and went to her new heavenly home on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens, Florence, SC.  The family will have a time of visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. before the service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. McElveen was born in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late Doley Vincent Martin and Tora Elizabeth Fenters Martin.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and  great-grandmother to a large and loving family.  She was an active member in her church.  Helen loved singing, reading her Bible, listening to Ole gospel music, crocheting and fishing at the beach.

She was married to the late Ernest C. "Clyde" McElveen,

Surviving are sons, Thomas (Donna) Carter, Jr, Larry (Cynthia) Carter, Timothy (Susan) Carter, Daniel (Wendy) Carter, Tony (Candy) Carter; daughter, Linda (Wally) Young; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; the father of her children, Thomas Carter, Sr.   She is preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Houghtaling, Barbara Ann Heil, brothers, Snooks, Jr, Pappy, Doley Vincent, Albert Martin.
