Following the service
Helen Florence Stewart Araujo, 97, of Florence, SC, entered into her heavenly rest on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Born in High Point, NC, she was a daughter of the late Hubert Calvin Stewart and the late Nellie Leonard Stewart. She was raised on a farm and lived through the Great Depression. Following her graduation from High Point Hospital School of Nursing, she utilized her nursing skills when she joined the United States Air Force, where she served as a 2nd Lieutenant. While stationed at Turner Air Force Base in Georgia, she met the love of her life, Gil Araujo. She loved to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as reading, working crossword puzzles and gardening.
The family would like to extend special gratitude to Dr. Ryan Williams and staff for their loving care. They would also like to thank VA nurse, Pam Ball; special caregiver, Marilyn Webson; caregiver, Janeth Williams for all the care given.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kenneth Michael Araujo (Gaye), Helen Connie Araujo Harker (Jim); grandchildren, Allison Pierce (Jason), Jennifer Greene (Wesley), Kelly Roeder (Dustin); great-grandchildren Dylan, Taylor, and Demi Greene, Cade, and Cate Frances Pierce, Cameron, and Coleman Roeder.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Araujo; brothers, Jim Stewart, H.C. Stewart, Paul Stewart; sister, Margaret Webb.

A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends after the service. The Directors of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home are caring for the family.
